Majaba from Ultraman: Towards the Future/Ultraman Great.

Baltan-seijin from the Ultraman series. A very famous Ultra foe with a memorable, unnerving laugh, they first showed up in the second episode of the first Ultraman series. Talk about hitting upon an enduring series staple early in a show’s run!

Some sort of Eleking necklace or pendant? Looks cool.

vandergrafvanny:

I recently watched a documentary about Ozploitation flicks (basically Australia’s grindhouse movies), which was essentially a big fat MUST SEE list for me.

These are a couple images and a poster from the film Razorback, which is about a huge killer pig. Clearly, a film I need to see.

Amazon DOES NOT fuck around. I just started watching this show and Amazon is brutal! He bites, claws, and will literally rip your head off, which is AWESOME. Needless to say if this show was produced today with the same style but updated sfx, it would be disturbing as hell.

Ganbaron was a 1977 Japanese tokusatsu live action television show featuring Japan’s own version of American superhero Superman.

“Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Ganbaron! Faster than a Shinkansen! Stronger than Kaiju!”

Teru Tendou is a young reporter for the Shonen Times. In times of trouble, he could transform into Ganbaron and save the day. The plot revolved mostly around Teru keeping his identity a secret from his friends. Ganbaron could call a giant robot named Daibaron (“big baron”).

This looks awesome but I can’t find footage anywhere. I love how they reappropriated Superman’s opening narration.

Vaguely heard of this series but I’ve never seen it. Interesting…

Ultraman vs. Bullton. Now this is a strange one! Bullton seems to be some sort of space-warping meteorite-like being or something like that. Memorably weird.

Ultraman vs. Gomora. In which Gomora beats the hell out of Ultraman, then gets bored and leaves.

Ultraman vs. Baltan II

Scenes from the second appearance of the Baltan in the first Ultraman series. Check out that weird-sounding laugh… also features Ultraman teleporting and throwing energy sawblades to cut stuff in half.

Some more Eleking pictures.

Japanese animation studio Gainax’s famous animation for a convention Daicon IV, featuring a bunny girl and so many science fiction, fantasy, and so on characters it’d be pretty difficult to name them all. I definitely can’t, though since I just posted about Eleking I’ll mention he’s in there in a brief shot. A Baltan-seijin is in there too. There are Star Wars characters, a xenomorph from Alien/Aliens, a shot with a bunch of superheroes, several giant robots… loads of stuff.

Also set to Electric Light Orchestra. There was another similar animation that came before this, for Daicon III.

Eleking appreciation post!

Eleking first showed up in episode three of Ultraseven and went on to be a very popular Ultra series kaiju, with appearances in several subsequent series and I believe he often shows up in spin-offs and merchandise and games and such as well! I think he deserves it personally, I find him to be a very cool, memorable design with his eyeless head, antenna ear-things, the body patterns and of course his long, flexible tail which he typically uses to warp around a foe and deliver powerful electric shocks (he can also use it to hit them, grab and throw, and so on). Although, in Ultraman Taro there is strangely a “Fire Eleking” which I think is also known as Eleking II. That one also appears to be more of a yellow colour instead of off-white. After that, as far as I’ve seen, they seem to have decided to stick with the abilities of the original Eleking.

Other popular Ultra series foes include Red King, Gomora/Gomola and of course the Baltan-seijin, who first showed up in the second episode of the original Ultraman series. And there are a whole lot more besides!

Images sourced from http://www.clubdesmonstres.com/bestiaire.html, which appears to be a good place to find loads of pictures of monsters from all sorts of things. I’m not sure exactly how it’s organised (possibly by who contributed the images?), but look around and you’ll probably find some interesting stuff. They even have Gyabish/Gyavish from Ultraman Dyna, a favourite of mine who doesn’t seem to be all that well known.

Today is officially monster day. Wait, no, how about every day is officially monster day?
